A drop of her blood

"Elizabeth Francis 'learned this art of witchcraft from her grandmother. When she taught it to her, she counseled her to give of her blood to Satan (as she termed it) which she delivered to her in the likeness of a white spotted Cat.  Every time that he (the cat) did any thing for her, she said that he required a drop of blood, which she gave him by pricking herself.'  Sometime after, Elizabeth Francis presented the Satan-cat to Mother Waterhouse, passing on to her the instructions received from Elizabeth's grandmother. Mother Waterhouse 'gave him for his labor a chicken, which he first required of her and a drop of her blood.  And this she gave him at all times when he did any thing for her, by pricking her hand or face and putting the blood to his mouth which he sucked.'
Another time she rewarded him as before with a chicken and a drop of her blood, which chicken he ate up clean as he did all the rest, and she could find remaining neither bones nor feathers." (Chelmsford, 1566)

Beltane/Samhain ... Sex and Death

The tangible and visible dance of life celebrated at Beltane clearly grows from the dissolution, 
the dance of death and transformation at Samhain.


It is Beltane in the Southern Hemisphere, the season of sweet desire for being. That desire which holds all form together and allows the dance of life. In the Northern Hemisphere it is Samhain, the season of celebrating the falling apart of all form, the end of desire which allows death and transformation.

At these cross-quarters "the veil is thin that divides the worlds."

Recent scientific studies indicate that organic life may be born from inorganic matter. Particles of plasma, normally considered inorganic, can undergo self-organization resulting in helical structures that become charged and are attracted to each other, thus taking on qualities of living matter — they are "autonomous, they reproduce and they evolve".
