| She Awoke As From A Dream by Scott Ferry 11"x14", watercolor www.scottferry.com Etsy Shop: shadowsofseak.etsy.com |
Necromancy adapted from the Latin Necromantia
involves the raising or “calling” of the dead for divination or binding
the spirit for a specific purpose. Here the Maleficium Cultus gather
together in a southern cemetery to raise
the young girl Vedaneh from the grave. Her dress is worn by one of the
witches, her skull and bones are dug up to to entice her and various
plants (Wormwood, Datura, Brugsmania, Nightshade, & Bats Tail)
associated with Necromancy bloom and cast their fragrance and mind
altering properties to open the doorway to the other realm. Vedaneh is
awoken to become one of the child spirit/gods of the Cultus. Veyasee in
the background watches over the Necromantic ritual as well as watches
the viewer of the artwork calling them to enter.
